Lady GaGa’s “Just Dance” was a huge hit that captured many women’s imaginations, but it was the line “I lost my keys, I lost my phone” that really got Canadian fashion designer Elizabeth Anne thinking. Elizabeth, a 27 year old hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, came up with the unique concept she calls “Purse n Boots” in 2009, when she began work on a pair of designer boots with interior pockets specially made to fit smart phones, keys, credit cards and cash. She calls them, appropriately, “the world’s first purse for your feet”.
A unique idea, but hasn’t someone thought of this before? Apparently not. The closest innovation in footwear seems to be a pair of running shoes with a space for your house keys. It’s this lack of other similar products that makes the marketing of “Purse n Boots” somewhat challenging. The general public doesn’t know about the new alternative to purses and handbags yet; that purses and boots have now combined! Elizabeth Anne says she’s up to the challenge and that her mission in 2012 is to promote as much awareness as possible for the boots.
“I created Purse n Boots because I wanted to give women the ability to dance, travel and shop purse free” says Elizabeth, now the CEO of Elizabeth Anne Shoes Inc, who already has the “Purse n Boots” concept patented and selling online at www.elizabethanneshoes.com. She called the process of bringing the boots to the marketplace “DIY fashion”.
“I’m a relative outsider to the fashion industry but I was passionate about the concept. Once you get started with something like this there are a lot of opportunities that come up. From finding top of the line manufacturers via a simple Google search to partnering up with distributors and promotion companies the same way, this would not have been possible 20 years ago. There are lots of independent fashion blogs and magazines have shown a lot of excitement about the boots, and it’s been invaluable in getting the word out. It’s like an underground community that’s always active. The growth has been quite fast and I’m so thankful.”
Made of the highest grade napa leathers and equipped with a 3 mm rubber sole for added traction, “Purse n Boots” doesn’t skimp on the quality, a conscious decision on Elizabeth Anne’s part. “I wanted everything to do with the boots to be the best of the best, so I chose top of the line materials. I didn’t want to compromise and release a lesser product in order to make the process easier. Good quality prevails and makes it through any economy because there are always people who want the best. My hope is that ‘Purse n Boots’ becomes a bona fide trend and women enjoy them for years to come.”
